~ ABOUT ST. DOMINIC SAVIO AND THE SODALITY ~

Dominic Savio, in Piedmontese nicknamed "Minot", was born April 2, 1842 in San Giovanni, village of Riva presso Chieri, the ends of the province and the diocese of Turin. It was the second of ten brothers, sons of Charles, who has been working as a blacksmith, and Bridget Gaiato, dressmaker. Little Domenico was baptized in the Church of Riva in the same day. At the end of 1843 the family moved to Murialdo, village of Castelnuovo d'Asti, today Castelnuovo Don Bosco. Dominic here in 1848 and started school in the parish church of the country received her first Communion on April 8, 1849. On this occasion, when she was just seven years, tracing his life project that synthesized in four very specific purpose: "I very often and I will confess to Communion as often as the confessor gives me permission. I want to sanctify the holidays. My friends will be Jesus and Mary. Death but not sin. " In February of 1853 the Savio moved again, this time in Mondonio, another village of Castelnuovo. On 2 October following Domenico, now twelve, he met Don Bosco in Becchi. The holy teacher was stunned by this guy: "I met a young man in mind all in the spirit of the Lord and I was not a little surprised considering the work that the grace of God had acted in such a tender age." With his innate honesty the boy said: "I am the fabric, the tailor, you do know: I make a pretty dress for the Lord." In the space of only twenty days so he could make his entry in the oratory of Valdocco in Turin. So he began to walk fast on the road that Don Bosco advised him to "be holy", her big dream of happiness, dedication to prayer and study, do good to others, devotion to Mary. He chose the saint as a confessor, and so that they could form a fair opinion of his consciousness, he wanted to practice general confession. Began to confession every two weeks, then perhaps every eight.
